We leave to visit another garden which is situated some twenty kilometres from Ploufragan. We are at the home of Jean-Claude Sautier at Etable-Sur-Mer. I have never met anyone more enthusiastic!
He loves birds so much that he almost tamed a Robin to eat from his hand; but sadly one morning he found it dead by the front door and his grief was so strong that this builder constructed a magnificent tomb!
This early retiree (five years ago) was formally an engineer on the huge barrages. Today he is no longer occupied with gigantic barrages but with little birds. These latest objects of his affection have become his greatest pleasure. He devotes a lot of his time to them. He makes nest boxes and feeding stations of high quality that are original and above all well appreciated.
Crested tit
Long-tailed tit
The feeders are thus open on the sides or have a little roof in clear plastic which is better for those birds who don't like to be taken by surprise. This engineer is a genius and he never ceases, spending many hours in his workshop, to create modifications to his nest boxes and feeding stations, giving them lovely colours or perhaps, for example fitting a long stand to keep them safe from cats.
At my request, he has made us ten textboxes which we have hung in the magnificent setting of the Goelo valley at Ploufragan. The Tits appreciated these four star hotels so much that we have ordered ten more.
