Refuges for life

Text by Aymeric Delporte, Marie-Laure Demaegdt and Jean-François Louineau

545 000 Costarmoricains live in this department, half of whome are in rural areas. The surface area of Cotes d'Armor (6 878 km²) represents a quarter of Brittany. This includes 70 000 ha of forests and 6 700 km of rivers. The coastline stretches for 350 km.

It is in this setting which is well protected and not too industrialized that some 205 species of birds nest.

To discover birdlife, it is not necessary to go to the corners of the earth in search of the more rare and strange. I am going to take you with the help of my photographs firstly to my garden at Ploufragan and then to some parts in Cotes d'Armor to demonstrate the pleasures to be found when close to nature.

We are going to visit some magnificent gardens with their particularities and meet some enthusiastic people!
